The Sacred Valley of the Incas or the Urubamba Valley was known in colonial documents as the “Valley of Yucay.” This valley was a sacred to the Incas due to its agricultural production including corn, potatoes, olluco, quinoa, and coca leaf (a sacred plant). Built by the Inca Pachacutec in the 15th Century, it was later abandoned and not rediscovered until 1911. Some studies report that its location in an energetic vortex makes it a spiritual place.
