Welcome to the splendor and majesty of Rome as we quest and experience the Sistine Chapel, the Forum, Santa Maria Antiqua, the Colosseum, St. Mary Maggiore, and much more! Rome is a truly ancient sacred land, unparalleled in historical richness with its abundance of awe-inspiring art and treasures.
The Pantheon, built by Emperor Hadrian in the 2nd century, was a temple to all the Gods. It was converted into a church in 609 and is the lowest point in Rome today. The oculus, or eye, of the Pantheon is the only source of light inside the temple, and symbolizes the connection between the temple and the gods above.
The Basilica of St. Mary Maggiore contains treasures of inestimable value. It was built over an ancient Temple of Minerva, the Goddess of Wisdom, just around the corner from the Pantheon. It was founded in 352 following an unprecedented snowfall in the month of August that was predicted by a vision of the Virgin Mary, and houses a Black Madonna which offers visitors the opportunity to share in some extraordinary experiences.
The Basilica of Saint Clemente descends through three layers of history from the 12th century church to an altar of Mithras. The amazing and unique archaeology of this Basilica records the history of Rome from the beginning of Christianity to the Middle Ages.
We will visit many more wonderful basilicas and sacred sites in Rome; just one of our inspiring stops along our Sacred Tour of Italy this September.
I invite you to join with us and take part in this very special adventure.
Blessings, love and light,
